Maine Pet Deposit Rules
Pet deposits are subject to Maine's security deposit laws:
- Deposit limit: 2 months rent (total including pet deposit)
- Return period: 30 days after move-out
- Deductions: Only for pet damage beyond normal wear and tear
Service Animals vs. Pets in Maine

- Emotional support animals (ESAs) — Protected under Fair Housing Act
